How do we get this BREAD of life?

B Believe in Jesus

For my Fathers will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.                                                                John. 6:40

Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires?29Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.                            John 6:28-29

8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithand this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God9not by works, so that no one can boast.                                     Eph. 2:8-9

R Redefine the Essentials

Old definition

30So they asked him, What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.                                                                          John. 6:30-31

The problem

Jesus answered, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,   John. 4:13

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!      Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.                                                         Isaiah. 55:1-2

49Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died.                    John. 6:49

New definition

32Jesus said to them, I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.                               John 6:32-33

Sir, the woman said, I can see that you are a prophet.                                  John. 4:14

Bread:            1.   Its a Person, not a commodity

2.      Finds satisfaction in everlasting, not temporal

32But he said to them, I have food to eat that you know nothing about. 33Then his disciples said to each other, Could someone have brought him food? 34My food, said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.                                      John. 4:32-34

E Expect Great Things from God

5When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat? 6He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.                                                                                                     John. 6:5-6

17Since you call on a Father who judges each mans work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.                                                                                                                                                    1Peter  1:7

A -          Attempt Great Things for God

22Have faith in God, Jesus answered. 23I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.                                                 Mk. 11:22-24

D Depend Daily upon God

34Sir, they said, from now on give us this bread.                                               John. 6:34

Give us each day our daily bread.                Luke. 11:3

12When Moses hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands upone on one side, one on the otherso that his hands remained steady till sunset.                                                                                                                                                            Ex. 17:21

23Then he said to them all: If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.                                                                                                                 Luke  9:23

4Jesus answered, It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.                        Mt. 4:4
